Joe Campanale, former sommelier of Babbo, and Gabe Thompson, formerly of Le Bernardin and Del Posto, have opened dell’anima, an Italian restaurant dedicated to seasonal cuisine with an emphasis on wine. Dell’anima features Thompson’s seasonally-inspired Italian menu with dishes like: Bone Marrow Custard with Gremolata Salad; Octopus with Olives, Chili and Lemon; and pastas that are handmade daily, including Tagliolini Nero with Calamari Ragu and Pizzoccheri with Sage, Potato, Garlic, Brussel Sprouts and Fontina. Campanale, a Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers, became a Certified Wine Educator when he was 23, and looks forward to educating and assisting guests with the diverse yet accessible Italian wine list. Campanale’s 100 bottle wine list boasts offerings from his favorite producers including Emidio Pepe, Paolo Bea, Movia and Bruno Giacosa.
The intimate West Village space offers table seating for 40, as well as 10 seats at the wine bar and five seats at the “chef’s counter”. Dell’anima opens prior to dinner service for an afternoon aperitivo hour from 4 - 6pm, and stays open until 2am. |
